Biblically, the word “Christian” is synonymous with “overcomer.” The word “overcome” is also synonymous with the word “vanquish” which means to DEFEAT in ANY contest or conflict; be VICTORIOUS over. (Dictionary.com)
So…
If we break down the word itself, over and come, we see that we must go over and we must come. Being “over” something is a place of authority or a place that denotes a besting of something. “Come” means that you actually walk or go through and not just (poof) appear.
Therefore…
If we are “over-comers,” then we not only bested our situation (whatever it may be) but we went through it. Realizing this will change your perspective of every situation. You are not meant to be saved from it, but saved through it. God does not “poof” you out of things. He does walk with you through them in such a way that you ALWAYS win, you always end up “over” the situation after having “come” through it.
Don’t look for your way out, look for His way through. That’s where the victory is.
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him.”
